Regensburg–Passau railway

The railway Regensburg -Passau heard as a connection to Austria and other South Eastern European countries to the main railway lines in southern Germany. It is also completely double-tracked and electrified.

History

For developing the railway loose until then eastern Bavaria, the Bavarian state left the local railway construction in 1856 the newly founded private "Royal priveligirten Actiengesellschaft the Bavarian Ostbahnen ". Under the date of 12 April 1856, the Eastern Railway Company received a concession for the construction and operation of rail lines in the east of Bavaria. The exact route had been worked out by the Bavarian government in 1851 and the Eastern Railroad Company was prescribed. A line ran from Munich to Landshut (opened on November 3, 1858) after Geiselhöring. There it branched northwards to Regensburg and south over Straubing to Passau. The sections Landshut - Geiselhöring - Regensburg and Geiselhöring - Straubing went on 12 December 1859 in operation. From Straubing 77 km stretch from September 20, 1860 went on about Plattling and Vilshofen to the border town of Passau. There, the rail line from September 1, 1861 was continued by the Austrian Empress Elisabeth train to Linz and Vienna.

Because of this route had to drive over Geiselhöring and head do there through trains from Regensburg to Passau. On July 1, 1873 direct link from Sünching was opened to Straubing, which greatly abridging the way and the journey accelerated. Between 1880 and 1897 we first put the now superfluous leg Sünching - Geiselhöring silent and later Perkam - Straubing, after they had made from 30 September 1896 by Perkam the connection after Radldorf which opens there in the main route towards Straubing.

The entire route fell to the nationalization of the Bavarian Ostbahnen on 10 May 1875, the Bavarian State Railways. A law enacted on March 3, 1894 the doubling of the track to Passau was initiated. On June 1, 1959, the scheduled electrical equipment was taken.

Under the emergency program seaport hinterland traffic 28 new signals were built, thus increasing the line capacity.
