Rhaetian Railway ABe 4/16

The RhB ABe 4/16 is a four-part electric train set, from which the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) has ordered a total of five pieces from Stadler Rail. These are used in passenger traffic since 2013. The unit trains of the RhB as " ALLEGRA Stammnetz trainsets ( STZ ) " means, are from the series RhB ABe 8/12 (RhB - name: " ALLEGRA dual-voltage trainsets ( ZTZ ) " ) is derived, which is also designed and built by Stadler Rail were. In contrast to the ABe 8/12, which are used as a trailing railcars before the whole train compositions, the ABe 4/16 were procured for the agglomeration traffic around Chur to come into the years Be 4/4 to replace.

Production and commissioning

Originally 2011geplant for the production and especially the start-up has dragged on. In January 2013, testing was made in passenger service with the 3101 for a month. End of July 2013 were the vehicles 3101, 3103 and 3104 a temporary operating permit so-called " exercise mode" by the FOT obtained which lasts until January 2014. During this time all tests must be completed in order to receive the final approval.

Development

Developed by Stadler Altenrhein the trains were built because of capacity constraints at the plant Altenrhein in Stadler Winterthur. This is because at the same time the DOSTO for SBB and Western Railway in Altenrhein claimed most capacities.

Commissioning

The commissioning of the trains was carried out for reasons of space in different places. In addition to the RhB main workshop in Landquart start-ups have also been made in Samedan and in Brig Glisergrund at MGB. The latter is remarkable because the RhB wanted the manufacturer Stadler provide no place on their infrastructure. Parts of the final assembly and commissioning were in the last two delivered trains ( 3102 and 3105 ) therefore conducted in Brig Glisergrund. Subsequently, the trains were transferred to the RhB network and off at different locations. As Abstellstandorte the siding on the former large sawmill Mayr- Melnhof in Domat / Ems and the train station Reichenau- Tamins were used, among other things.
