Rhazuns

Rhazuns (Romansh Razen [ ʁɐtsen ]? / I ) is a municipality in the district of Imboden in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.

Languages

Originally, the residents spoke a bündner Romanesque dialect. Although this was a mittelbündnerische dialect, the Sursilvan was used as a written language traditionally in all municipalities of the district Imboden. In this capacity, they resembled the communities Berguen Filisur where also mittelbündnischere dialects were in use and are, as a written language but the Oberengadinische (where, historically, mainly for religious reasons) was in use.

History

Rhazuns 840 is first mentioned in documents as Raezunne. With Bonaduz Rhazuns originally formed a parish with the parish church of St. George. 1529-1667 was a gradual separation of the two communities. Since the establishment of the Upper or Grey League 1424 Rhazuns formed with the communities Bonaduz, Ems and Felsberg a court. With the same rule Rhazuns the community came in 1497 from the Zollern of Habsburg, but remained part of the Three Leagues. After the Congress of Vienna in 1819 Rhazuns came finally to Canton Graubunden.

The present parish church Nossadunna ( Nativity of Mary ) was contributed by the Lord of Rhazuns, the German Emperor Leopold I, built in 1702. The mineral spring is used in a professional capacity since 1850 and gave the mineral Rhäzünser his name.
