The Red sea Picasso triggerfish ( Rhinecanthus assasi ) or Arabian Picasso triggerfish lives in the Red Sea, and in the extreme north-western Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Aden, the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf. He is the only species of the genus Rhinecanthus in the Red Sea and there unmistakable.

Features

The Red sea Picasso triggerfish is 30 inches long. Color, it resembles the Indo-Pacific belly spot - Picasso triggerfish ( Rhinecanthus verrucosus ), but it lacks its characteristic dark spot on the belly. In the Red Sea Picasso Triggerfish the anal region is offset yellow or reddish brown from the otherwise whitish belly. Before the caudal peduncle is a white box, which is marked with three black stripes.

Way of life

He lives in the shallow waters of Riffterrassen and fringing reefs to a depth of ten meters. Juveniles remain at between ästigen stony corals (Acropora, Pocillopora and Stylophora ) or hide in snail shells. Red sea Picasso triggerfish feed mainly on bottom-dwelling invertebrates.
