Richard Klemm

Richard Klemm ( born March 25, 1902 in Dresden, † 1988 in Berlin) was a German cellist, composer and eminent teacher.

Biography

His father Oskar Richard Klemm was a universal musician who played several other instruments besides his main instrument double bass and to private parties such as weddings and the like pierced through uploading.

Richard Klemm received as a child in part by his father lessons in several instruments ( cello, piano, violin, trumpet) and sang in Dresden Kreuz Choir. 1919 left terminal Dresden and took a position at the Spa Orchestra cellist of Königsberg. In the years 1923-1926 he studied cello with Hugo Becker in Berlin, composition with Paul Juon and piano. He graduated from the matriculation examination in the two compartments cello and piano. At the final exams, he played the cello solo sonata by Zoltán Kodály and the Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor by Ludwig van Beethoven.

After graduating, Richard Klemm cellist in the Staatskapelle Berlin was ( Orchestra of the Berlin State Opera ). He also played in chamber music ensembles of the Staatskapelle Berlin, and in the knee little town quartet. In 1950, he taught himself the viola da gamba game.

In 1958, Richard Klemm professor at the Hochschule für Musik in West Berlin. Several of his students were Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic (Wolfgang Boettcher, Christoph Kapler, Jörg Baumann, Alexander Wedow ). Klemm's work as a composer for four cellos contributed to the founding of the ensemble in The 12 Cellists. His gamba playing, he gave his students on.

His later colleague Siegfried Borris wrote him a concerto for viola da gamba and orchestra. Terminal long time belonged to the orchestra of the Richard Wagner Festival in Bayreuth. His compositions include works for four cellos in particular (among Bolero, Habanera, Espana, Concert Waltz ). He has worked on Johann Sebastian Bach's Art of Fugue for String Quartet and the concertos for cello by Joseph Haydn, Robert Schumann and Camille Saint- Saëns for four cellos. In recognition of his merits Richard Klemm was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.

He was married to Ilse Ebermannsdorf and had three sons.
