Richard Robarts

Richard Andrew Robarts ( born September 22, 1944 in Bicknacre, Essex ) is a retired British racing driver.

The beginnings of the career

Robarts began with 25 years with the active motorsport. In 1969 he contested the British Formula Ford Championship, but was only in 1972 achieved his first victory. In the following year Robarts moved to the Lombard North Formula 3 series and won it together with the same number of points Englishman Tony Brise.

In Formula 1

For the Formula 1 World Championship in 1974, Robarts Bernie Ecclestone's Brabham bought into team. After three races in which Robarts was able to achieve only moderate results, he was replaced by Rikky von Opel, which had a bigger budget than Robarts.

At the Grand Prix of Sweden Robarts for the team of Frank Williams was reported with an Iso - Marlboro FW02 as a driver. Shortly before the beginning of the session, however, the team decided to entrust the car to the Dane Tom BELSO. Belso had already contested two races for Williams and yet still secured the financing of its use in the short term.

Career in Formula 1

Other races

Between 1975 and 1977, denied Robarts numerous races in sports cars, touring cars and in Formula 2 Championship. After a serious accident in 1976 in a Formula 2 race in Vallelunga, Italy, Robarts started only sporadically in auto racing. In 1978, he finished his career with a guest appearance in the Porsche 924 Cup.

This and That

At the Grand Prix of South Africa in 1974, Robarts complained against Bernie Ecclestone on his view, lack of publicity that might come unto him at Brabham. Ecclestone responded in his own way, he had painted the name Robarts in huge letters on the side walls of the Brabham. After completion of the training Robarts could enforce that Ecclestone says remove the unusual painting again.
