Richeza of Denmark

Rikissa of Denmark (* 1174, † May 8, 1220 in Ringsted / Denmark) was the wife of the Swedish king Erik X and thus Queen of Sweden.

Life

Rikissa was the daughter of the Danish king Valdemar I (1131-1182) and his wife Sophia (around 1141-1198 ).

1210 married Rikissa king Erik X ( 1180-1216 ) who was King of Sweden since 1208. Erik X. 'd probably be crowned as the first Swedish king. From 1210 to 1216 Rikissa was Swedish Queen of Denmark. The political marriage brought the reconciliation of Sweden with Denmark and with the Pope.

Rikissa died relatively young in Denmark. She is buried in the 12th century in St. Bendts church of Ringsted.

Progeny

The marriage produced a son and at least three daughters were born:

  • Sophia Eriksdotter, married to Henry III Borwin. , Lord of Rostock
  • Marta Eriksdotter, married to Nils Sparre Sixtensson
  • Ingeborg Eriksdotter, married with Birger Magnusson of Bjälbo
  • King Eric XI. (1216-1250)
