Riders on the Storm is a song by The Doors from 1971 from the album LA Woman. Was composed the piece by John Densmore, Robby Krieger, Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison. The single was released in June 1971 and included on the B - side of the play The Changeling. She came to the U.S. to # 14 in the singles chart in Germany at number 28 and in the UK at number 22

The inspiration for the song was the piece ( Ghost ) Riders in the Sky:. A Cowboy Legend by Stan Jones from the 1948 Riders on the Storm contains thunder and rain effects and mimicked Ray Manzarek on a Fender Rhodes sounds after the rain.

Riders on the Storm is partly based on the story of Billy Cook gunman who killed hitchhikers as a whole family. Alternatively, the text is attributed to a French surrealist poetry of the thirties, the " Chevalier de l' Ouragan " (about " tab of the hurricane " ) by Louis Aragon.

The song was recorded with the participation of Bruce Botnick, the longtime engineer and co-producer of the recording in the " Doors Workshop" in December 1970. The main voice comes from Jim Morrison, who once whispered the text on the recording to produce a haunting effect. Riders on the Storm was the last song, collected by the Doors together.

The album version had a playing time of seven minutes and nine seconds, the single was a shortened version with a playing time of four minutes and 35 seconds.
