Rimavská Seč

Rimavská Seč ( until 1927 slovak " SIAC " or " Sečovec "; Hungarian Rimaszécs ) is a small town south of Rimavská Sobota near the border with Hungary in the south-central Slovakia.

It originated in the 12th century and was first mentioned in writing in 1289 as Zeech. Its history is connected with the noble family of Széchy family, from 1360 by Velky Blh took control and built a castle here. During the Turkish invasions ( 1566) the town was badly affected.

Until 1918 the village was in the county Gemer and small Hont the Kingdom of Hungary (where it was the seat of county government ), and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. By the First Vienna Award they came from 1938 to 1945 for a short time again to Hungary.

The majority of the inhabitants are Hungarians ( about 89 %), the rest is distributed among Slovaks ( 5%) and Roma ( 6%) on.
