Robert Ihly

Robert Ihly ( born May 5, 1963 in asbestos ) is a former German track and field athlete and Olympian.

Career

Until 1988 Ihly went to the Army Sports Club Alma- Ata. In February 1989 he moved as ethnic Germans to Germany and joined the LFV Schutter forest where from 1992 he started for the LG Offenburg. As early as 1989 Ihly won his first national title in the 50 km walk, 1990, he won both about 20 km and about 50 km. After the reunification Ihly got strong competition from walkers from the GDR as Axel Noack, Ronald Weigel and Hartwig Gauder, but was able to win with two exceptions, every year a national title and was in each case at the international season highlight it. His best results reach him at the World Championships, where he placed three times in the top eight athletes. To this end he managed a seventh place finish at the European Indoor Championships in 1992.
