Roberta Pinotti

Roberta Pinotti ( born May 20, 1961 in Genoa) is an Italian politician of the Partito Democratico. Since 22 February 2014, it is defense minister of Italy.

Life

After studying literature Pinotti worked as a teacher of Italian at various high schools. Her political career began in the early 1990s, when she was elected in her hometown of Genoa to the city district councilor. From 1993 to 1997 she was in the Government of the Province of Genoa responsible for education, youth and social affairs, from 1997 to 1999 then Alderman of schools in the city of Genoa. From 1999 to 2001 she was provincial chairman of the Left Democrats.

In May 2001, Roberta Pinotti entered the Italian Chamber of Deputies, where the Budget Committee, beginning in April 2002 was initially then working in the defense committee. After the parliamentary elections in 2006, she was elected Chairman of the Defence Committee of the Chamber of Deputies and was the first woman to hold the post. In the early parliamentary elections in 2008 she ran for the Senate, where it was in 2010 deputy chairman of the local defense committee. After the parliamentary elections in 2013, after which she moved again in the Senate, she was State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence on 3 May 2013 Cabinet Letta.

On February 22, 2014 Roberta Pinotti was defense minister in the government Renzi. She is the first woman at the helm of the Italian Ministry of Defence.
