Roger Kaffer

Roger Louis Kaffer ( born August 14, 1927 in Joliet, Illinois, † May 28, 2009 ibid ) was auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Joliet.

Life

Roger Louis Kaffer studied theology at Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago and at Mundelein Seminary in Mundelein. He received in 1954 in the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet Nonnatus ordained priest for the Diocese of Joliet by Bishop Joseph Leopold Imesch. At the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, he subsequently studied canon law and at DePaul University in Chicago pedagogy. He received his doctorate in Public Administration from the University of Saint Mary of the Lake. Following an assistant of the Vicar General in Joliet, he was a founding member and rector of the Seminary of Saint Charles Borromeo seminars in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. He was then rector of the Catholic Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox, Illinois. He was also a canon of the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet.

In 1985 he was appointed by Pope John Paul II as Titular Bishop of Dusa and auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Joliet in Illinois, USA, appointed a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Chicago. The Episcopal ordination on June 26, 1985 gave him Joseph Leopold Imesch, Bishop of the Diocese of Joliet; Were co-consecrators Raymond James Vonesh, Auxiliary Bishop of Joliet, and Daniel Leo Ryan, Bishop of Springfield in Illinois.

He was chairman of the Diocesan Synod in Joliet 1986 until 1989. His age-related resignation was accepted by Pope John Paul II in 2002. Nevertheless, he was responsible for the education commission in the diocese. From 1993 until his death he was chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, one of the largest fraternal lay organizations. He supported the pilgrimage movement of Medugorje.
