Roman Bierła

Roman Bierła ( born March 21, 1957 in Katowice ) is a former Polish wrestler. He was winner of a silver medal at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow in Greco-Roman wrestling in the heavyweight division.

Career

Bierła novel began as a teenager in 1971 with the struggle and became a member of the sports club GKS Katowice. He concentrated entirely on the Greco- Roman style. Throughout his career, Stanislaw Turow, Jan Adamszek, Antoni Masternak and Janusz Tracewski were his coach. By profession novel Bierla was an electrical engineer. During his career, he wrestler but did not pursue this profession.

His first great success on the international wrestling mat, he scored at the Junior World Championship 1975 in Haskovo, where he finished in the heavyweight division (then up to 100 kg body weight), the 3rd place. Even more successful he was at the Junior World Championship 1977 in Las Vegas, for there he won the heavyweight world title against Victor Letow from the Soviet Union and Hungary Bodo.

In the senior he started in 1978 at the European Championships in Oslo, and missed there with the 4th place just a medal. He was defeated while the Super wrestlers Nikolai Balboschin from the Soviet Union and Georgi Rajkow from Bulgaria, the wrestler dominated events in those years in this weight class. Also at the World Championships this year in Mexico City, he was defeated by Rajkow. In addition, he also had to Refik Memišević from Yugoslavia to accept a defeat and ended up with it on the 7th Place.

At the European Championships in 1979 in Bucharest Roman Bierła defeated among others the German master, Hans- Günter Klein and the strong Romanian Vasile Andrei, but had to re Nikolai Balboschin beaten. He was Vice-European Champion and celebrated his first major success in an international championship in the seniors. At the World Cup 1979 in San Diego, he defeated Tamás Gáspár from Hungary and Refik Memišević, but lost time against Vasile Andrei. Counter Georgi Rajkow he kept the fight for a long time open. In this case both wrestlers would receive from the judges two passive warnings. Shortly before the end got Roman Bierła then a third warning, which meant his Disqualifikationsniederlage. According to expert opinions, which can be found in the journal athletics, but this was a wrong decision, because after their opinion Rajkow would have had more deserving of the third warning as Bierła. However, since such decisions are not overturned fact mostly in sports, Roman Bierła dropped out and came on the 5th Place.

At the European Championships 1980 in Prievidza Roman Bierła defeated among others the Soviet Mikhail Saladse starter, but lost again against Georgi Rajkow. In the fight against József Farkas from Hungary he was disqualified along with Farkas because passivity. These results ranged but to win the European Championship bronze medal. The greatest success of his career, scored Roman Bierła then at the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 by winning the silver medal in the heavyweight division. He defeated among others there his old rivals Vasile Andrei and Refik Memišević. In the final battle for the gold medal he stood against Georgi Rajkow and subject to that again by disqualification with the third passivity warnings, which also had two Rajkow passivity warnings.

After the 1980 Olympic Games Roman Bierła took on a sports studies at the Sport University AWF in Warsaw. 1981 was novel Bierła who had a German -born woman, but with that in the Federal Republic of Germany. He wrestled there for the SV Siegfried Hallbergmoos in the German Bundesliga, but had great difficulties adjusting to the very different system. Also at the European Championships in 1986 in Athens, it was enough for him in the heavyweight division only to this place.

In 1986 Roman Bierła in Poland Andrzej Wronski a tough competitor, he could not defeat. His international career was thus terminated after the European Championships in 1986. In the following years he went back to Germany and there wrestled a few more years for the KSV meadow valley and the AV Reilingen in the Ringer - Bundesliga. In 1996 he took over as coach in his Polish hometown club GKS Katowice.
