History

Pope Leo XIII. founded the Apostolic Prefecture of French Guinea on 18 October 1897 annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Senegambia and Sierra Leone. On 18 April 1920, it was elevated to the rank of apostolic vicariate.

On 12 May 1949, lost part of its territory in favor of the establishment of the Apostolic Prefecture Kankan and simultaneously adopted the name, Vicariate Apostolic of Conakry, at. With the bull Dum Tantis it was collected on September 14, 1955 in the rank of Metropolitanerzbistums.
