Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Freetown

The Archdiocese of Freetown (Latin: Archidioecesis liberae Urbis ) is a location in Sierra Leone Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Freetown.

History

Pope Pius IX. founded the Apostolic Vicariate of Sierra Leone on April 13, 1858 from the Vicariate Apostolic of territory of the two Guineas and Senegambias. With the Apostolic Constitution Laeto accepimus it was raised on 18 April 1950 for the diocese and took the name of the diocese of Freetown and Bo.

With the bull Quantum bonuses it was collected on 11 November 1970 at the rank of Metropolitanerzbistums. On January 15, 2011, the Archdiocese was divided into the Archdiocese of Freetown and Bo the diocese.
