Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Diamantina

The Archdiocese of Diamantina (Latin: Archidioecesis Adamantinus ) is a located in Brazil Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Diamantina in the state of Minas Gerais.

History

The Diocese of Diamantina was born on June 6, 1854 by Pope Pius IX. built with the Papal Bull Gravissimum sollicitudinis out of territory of the diocese of Mariana and the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro is a suffragan. On May 1, 1906, the Diocese of Diamantina was the archbishopric Mariana is a suffragan. The Diocese of Diamantina announced on December 10, 1910 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Montes Claros. A further transfer of territory took place on August 25, 1913 establishing the bishopric Araçuaí.

On June 28, 1917, the Diocese of Diamantina was raised to an archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Diamantina gave in its history several times parts of its territory from the creation of new dioceses.
