Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Honiara

The Archdiocese of Honiara (Latin: Archidioecesis Honiaranus ) is a location in the Solomon Islands Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Honiara on the island of Guadalcanal. It includes the provinces of Central, Guadalcanal, Makira and Ulawa, Rennell and Bellona and Temotu.

History

Pope Leo XIII. founded the Apostolic Prefecture British Solomon Islands on 27 July 1897 annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of New Britain. On January 21, 1904 it took the name Southern Apostolic Prefecture of Solomon Islands. With the Apostolic Constitution maxima semper she was raised on 1 June 1912 Apostolic Vicariate.

On November 15, 1966, was charged with the Bull Laeta incrementa to the diocese and adopted its present name. With the bull Laetentur insulae multae it was collected on 15 November 1978 in the rank of Metropolitanerzbistums.
