Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Osaka

The Archdiocese of Osaka ( Latin: Archidioecesis Osakensis, Japaneseカトリック 大阪 大司教 区, katorikku Osaka daishikyōku ) is a location in Japan Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Osaka.

The Archdiocese of Osaka, together with the suffragan Hiroshima, Kyoto, Nagoya and Osaka Takamatsu the ecclesiastical province, which extends over eastern Japan, except Kyushu, covers.

History

The Archdiocese of Osaka was posted on March 20, 1888 by Pope Leo XIII. cessions of territory from the Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Japan established as Apostolic Vicariate of Central Japan. On 15 June 1891, the Apostolic Vicariate of Central Japan was by Leo XIII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution maius Non Nobis to the diocese and renamed the Diocese of Osaka. It was the Archdiocese of Tokyo is a suffragan. The Diocese of Osaka announced on January 27, 1904 from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Shikoku. Other annexations took place on May 4, 1923 establishing the Apostolic Vicariate of Hiroshima and on 17 June 1937 establishing the Apostolic Kyoto Prefecture.

The Diocese of Osaka was posted on June 24, 1969 by Pope Paul VI. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Quamquam Ecclesiae to the archbishopric.
