Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Samoa-Apia

The Archdiocese of Samoa - Apia (Latin: Archidioecesis Samoa Apianus ) is located in Samoa Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Apia.

History

The Archdiocese of Samoa - Apia was born on August 20, 1850 by Pope Pius IX. cessions of territory from the Apostolic Vicariate of Central Oceania established as Apostolic Vicariate archipelago of navigators. On January 4, 1957, the Vicariate Apostolic of Archipelago of Navigators in Apostolic Vicariate of Samoa and Tokelau has been renamed.

The Apostolic Vicariate of Samoa and Tokelau was posted on June 21, 1966 by Pope Paul VI. with the Apostolic Constitution Prophetarum voces to the diocese raised and renamed Diocese of Apia. It was the Archdiocese of Suva is a suffragan. On August 10, 1974, the diocese was renamed the Diocese of Apia Apia, Samoa and Tokelau. The Diocese of Apia, Samoa and Tokelau was renamed on December 3, 1975 in Diocese of Samoa and Tokelau. On September 10, 1982, the Diocese of Samoa and Tokelau were from parts of its territory to the creation of quidem with the Apostolic Constitution Studiose erected Diocese of Samoa - Pago Pago.

The Diocese of Samoa and Tokelau was collected on September 10, 1982, Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution maiorem ad utilitatem to an archbishopric and renamed the Archdiocese of Samoa - Apia and Tokelau. On 26 June 1992, the Archdiocese of Samoa - Apia and Tokelau was transferred to the Archdiocese of Samoa - Apia and Tokelau shared mission sui juris.
