Roman Catholic Archdiocese of São Paulo

The Archdiocese of São Paulo (Latin: Sancti Pauli Archidioecesis in Brasilia ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in São Paulo, state of São Paulo.

The Diocese of São Paulo was established by Pope Benedict XIV with the Latin name Sancti Pauli in Brasilia on December 6, 1745 from the Metropolitan Diocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro out. First bishop was Bernardo Rodrigues Nogueira. 1908, the diocese by Pope Pius X was raised to an archbishopric.

Between 1892 and 1989 a number of suffragan dioceses were founded.
