Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vitória

The Archdiocese of Vitória (Latin: Sancti Spiritus Archidioecesis victoriensis ) is a located in Brazil Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Vitória in the state of Espírito Santo.

History

The Archdiocese of Vitória was on 15 November 1895 by Pope Leo XIII. built out of territory of the Diocese of Niterói as Espírito Santo diocese and the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro is a suffragan. On February 16, 1958, the Diocese of Espírito Santo were from parts of its territory to the founding of the dioceses Cachoeiro de Itapemirim and São Mateus.

On February 16, 1958, the Diocese of Espírito Santo was elevated to an archdiocese and renamed the Archdiocese of Vitória. The Archdiocese of Vitória announced on April 23, 1990 from parts of its territory to the foundation of the diocese Cola Tina.
