Roman Catholic Diocese of Niigata

The Diocese of Niigata (Latin: Dioecesis Sendaiensis, Japaneseカトリック 新潟 教区, katorikku Niigata Kyoku ) is a location in Japan Roman Catholic diocese based in Niigata.

History

Pope Pius X founded the Apostolic Niigata Prefecture on August 13, 1912 cessions of territory of the diocese of Hakodate.

On February 18, 1922, lost part of its territory for the establishment of the Apostolic Prefecture Nagoya. With the Apostolic Constitution Sicut provido it was raised on 16 April 1962 bishopric.

The diocese consists of the prefectures Niigata Niigata, Yamagata and Akita on the island of Honshu.
