Roman Catholic Diocese of Saint-Dié

The French Diocese of Saint- Dié (Latin: Sancti Dioecesis Deodati ) was built in 1777. For this, the Abbey of Saint -Dié was disbanded and some areas of the diocese of Toul were separated and transferred to the new diocese. It belonged to the ecclesiastical province of Trier. After the bishopric was secularized, it came on October 6, 1822 for the re-establishment, and it has now been placed under the Archbishopric of Besançon suffragan. Since 1944, the seat of the bishop and the diocese administration in Epinal, the main town of the department, but there was no built cathedral.
