Roman Catholic Diocese of Siedlce

The Diocese of Siedlce (Latin: Dioecesis Siedlecensis, poln: Diecezja Siedlecka ) is a diocese located in Poland of the Roman Catholic church located in Siedlce.

History

As a diocese Podlachia o Janow it was established on June 30, 1818 by Pope Pius VII. For the first bishop of the Pope appointed on March 30, 1819 the former auxiliary bishop in Kujawy and Pomerania, Feliks Łukasz Lewiński.

By order of the Russian Tsar Alexander II, the diocese Podlachia o Janow was disbanded on 22 May 1867, the area affiliated with the Archdiocese of Lublin; the bishop was banished to a Kapuzinerklosten in Lomza.

Pope Benedict XV. has re-established taking into account the political changes in Europe after the First World War on 24 November 1918 and Henryk Ignacy Przezdziecki appointed bishop.

On 28 October 1925 by Pope Pius XI. changed in the Bull Pro recto et utili name in Siedlce diocese. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Lublin.
