Roman Catholic Diocese of Stockholm

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Stockholm (Latin: Dioecesis Holmiensis, Sw: Stockholms Katolska pin ) is the only Roman Catholic diocese of Sweden and extends over the entire territory.

History

Forerunner of today's diocese was that on September 23, 1783 spun off from the existing from Sweden, Norway and Finland Apostolic Vicariate Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Sweden. 1809 is the area around Finland with the Archbishop of Mogilev, from 1920, the Apostolic Vicariate of Finland is founded. 1855 was the Vicariate territories north of the Arctic Circle to the new North Pole mission from which the resolution fell back again in 1868 to the vicarage. On August 7, 1868, the area around Norway was establishing the mission sui juris Norway issued. The Vicariate was posted on June 29, 1953 with the Bull Profecit valde by Pope Pius XII. raised to the bishopric, two years after the law on religious freedom was adopted in 1951 in Sweden.

Bishop of Stockholm is the first Swede Anders Arborelius OCD Carmelite monk since 17 November 1998.

Organizations

Within the Diocese of children and young people in the youth organization Riksförbundet Sveriges Unga Katoliker are members. In addition, Sweden widespread newspaper Katolskt Magasin is issued, earlier Katolsk Kyrkotidning. The aid organization Caritas Sverige belongs to the international Caritas network.
