Roman Catholic Diocese of Tarawa and Nauru

The Diocese of Tarawa and Nauru (Latin: Dioecesis Taravanus et Naurunus ) is located in Kiribati and Nauru Roman Catholic diocese based in Tarawa.

History

The Diocese of Tarawa and Nauru was posted on June 28, 1897 by Pope Leo XIII. cessions of territory from the Apostolic Vicariate of Micronesia established as Apostolic Vicariate Gilbert Islands. The Apostolic Vicariate of Gilbert Islands was posted on June 21, 1966 by Pope Paul VI. with the Apostolic Constitution Prophetarum voces to the diocese raised and renamed the Diocese of Tarawa. It was the Archdiocese of Suva is a suffragan. On November 15, 1978, the Diocese of Tarawa was renamed the Diocese of Tarawa, Nauru and Funafuti. The Diocese of Tarawa, Nauru and Funafuti announced on September 10, 1982 parts of its territory establishing the mission sui juris from Funafuti and was renamed the Diocese of Tarawa and Nauru.
