Roman Catholic Diocese of Toamasina

The Archdiocese of Toamasina (Latin: Archidioecesis Toamasinensis ) is a location in Madagascar Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Toamasina.

History

Pius IX. founded the Apostolic Prefecture Vatomandry with the Apostolic Constitution Inter graviores on June 18, 1935 from annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate Fianarantsoa and Antananarivo. On 25 May 1939 she was elevated to the Apostolic Vicariate and took the name, Apostolic Vicariate of Tamatave on.

Charged on the diocese, which was the Archdiocese of Tananarive a suffragan, it was with the Bull Dum Tantis on 14 September 1955. On December 11, 1958, was part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Antsiranana. On April 9, 1968, lost part of its territory in favor of the establishment of the diocese Mananjary. On 31 January 1990, it adopted its present name. In the rank of Metropolitanerzbistums it was raised on February 26, 2010.
