Roman Catholic Diocese of Vitoria

The Diocese of Vitoria (Latin: Dioecesis victoriensis, Spanish: diócesis de Vitoria ) is a location in Spain Roman Catholic diocese based in Vitoria- Gasteiz.

History

The Diocese of Vitoria was born on September 8, 1861 by Pope Pius IX. built with the Papal Bull In Celsisima out of territory of the Archdiocese of Burgos and the bishoprics of Calahorra and La Calzada, Pamplona and Santander and the Archdiocese of Burgos is a suffragan.

1880, the seminary of the diocese of Vitoria was founded.

The Pope Pius XII. following adopted Pontifical bull Quo Commodius gave the diocese of Vitoria on November 2, 1949 parts of its territory to the founding of the dioceses Bilbao and San Sebastian from.

The area of the diocese of Vitoria includes the province of Álava.
