Roman Catholic Diocese of Witbank

The Diocese of Witbank (Latin: Dioecesis Vitbankensis ) is a location in South Africa, Roman Catholic diocese based in Witbank.

History

The Diocese of Witbank was posted on June 12, 1923 by Pope Pius XI. from the Apostolic Vicariate of territory Transvaal established as Apostolic Prefecture of Lydenburg. On 9 December 1948, the Apostolic Prefecture of Lydenburg was by Pope Pius XII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Si Gospel Apostolic Vicariate.

On January 11, 1951, the Vicariate Apostolic of Lydenburg was by Pope Pius XII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Suprema Nobis to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Pretoria, is a suffragan. The Diocese of Lydenburg was on June 23, 1958 from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Volksrust. On September 13, 1964, the Diocese of Lydenburg was renamed the Diocese of Lydenburg - Witbank. The Diocese of Lydenburg - Witbank was renamed on November 10, 1987 in Diocese of Witbank. On 5 June 2007, the Diocese of Witbank was the Archbishopric of Johannesburg, is a suffragan.
