Rosette or Rosetta (Arabic رشيد Rashid, Rashid DMG ) is a port city in the Nile Delta in the government of al - Buhaira in Egypt. It lies on the western tributary of the Nile, west of the Bay of Aboukir. The famous Rosetta Stone was in 1799 in the seven kilometers north of the town Fort St. Julien, today's Fort rosette, found.

History

Rosette was founded in 870 and is located on the site of the old Bolbitine. In the Middle Ages the city was a major port, but had to give up in the 19th century his position at Alexandria. Today rosette is a hub of food, tobacco and textile industries.

Cityscape and Tourist Attractions

The city was virtually no growth in the last two centuries, which led to many houses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved, the long dominate the skyline. Today, only 22 of these houses are preserved, although there were in 1963 about 40 of them. These houses are usually four to five stories high and built of brick mosaic assembled, are embedded between the ancient stone blocks. The preserved fortifications in the north and west of the city comes in part from the 16th century.

Population Development
