Rosina Ferrara

Rosina Ferrara (* 1861 in Anacapri on the island of Capri, † November 7, 1934 in Queens, New York City ) was an Italian model and muse.

Life

Rosina Ferrara was a daughter of vegetables maker Bartolomeo Ferrara and her mother was said to be a descendant of the privateer Barbarossa. My exotic appearance fascinated the artists from the late 19th century.

In 1878, the painter John Singer Sargent first came to the island of Capri and learned the 17-year old Rosina Ferrara know. The romance lasted only briefly - in the 1880s, she was the mistress of the Belgian painter Alfred Stevens and bore him two daughters. 1891 married Rosina Ferrara in Rome the artist George Randolph Barse ( 1861-1938 ) from Detroit. Later, the couple lived in New York City, where she died in 1934 after a long battle with cancer. Three years after her death, her husband committed suicide.
