Rothley

Rothley is a comune ( civil parish ) in the county of Leicestershire in England with about 3,600 inhabitants.

Location

The place is located 8 km north of Leicester. The Rothley Brook flows south and adjacent flows about 1 km to the east in the Soar. The A road (main road) A 6 extends about 1 km in the East.

History

The site has developed since the early Middle Ages as a marketplace for the wooded area. In the cemetery there is a cross of axes from the 9th century. On the grounds of Rothley Court, the Chapel of the Knights Templar from the 13th century.

The missing girl Madeleine McCann lived here with his parents until his disappearance in Portugal in 2007.
