Borough of Charnwood

Charnwood is a local government district with the status of a borough in the county of Leicestershire in England, which is named after the forest of Charnwood Forest. Administrative seat is the town of Loughborough. Other important towns are Anstey, Barrow upon Soar, Hathern, Mountsorrel, Rothley, Shepshed, Sileby, Syston, Thurmaston and Wymeswold.

The district was formed on 1 April 1974 and evolved from the merger of the Municipal Borough of Loughborough, Shepshed of the Urban District and the Rural District Barrow upon Soar. First, he had the status of a District, but was already raised on 15 May 1974 a Borough.
