The Croda Rossa is with 1884 m the highest mountain in the Bavarian part of Mangfallgebirge and thus also the highest peak in Spitzingseegebiet.

The popular Munich mountain (for example, by the Pfanngraben with beautiful pools ) to achieve in a simple hike from Spitzingsee out in various ways. From the mountain station of the Taubensteinbahn from it can be climbed on the way to the west below the Lempersbergs even faster and is therefore crowded on summer days often. An alternative route leads from Brail on the Soinsee to the summit. To the south of the summit is on 1737 m the Rotwandhaus.

In winter, the Croda Rossa is often celebrated as the ski tour. The classic Croda Rossa Reib'n leads from Spitzingsee to the Croda Rossa, then the Kümpflscharte ( 1695 m) on the Auerspitz (1811 m), continue on Großtiefentalalm (1500 m), Miesingsattel (1704 m; possibly with a detour to Hochmiesing ), Kleintiefentalalm and pigeons stone house back to Spitzingsee. The tour is also possible with snowshoes.

In the environment of the Croda Rossa oldest human artifacts of the German Alpine region were found. Soinsees of a stone unit to the saddle between Tanzeck and Rauhkopf north of the Croda Rossa, two, immediately east discovered as a reading Fund. Two of the deductions are made radiolarite, one dated flint, all of which are in the Beuronian, the oldest phase of the Middle Stone Age. Further findings from the same period are known position on the Austrian side near the rear Sonnwendjoch and on both banks of Lake Achen.
