Roxy & Elsewhere is a music album by Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention. It appeared in 1974 on the Discreet label and is attributed to the progressive rock genre.

Content

Roxy & Elsewhere is the twelfth album by the Mothers of Invention. This is a live recording, most of the pieces were in the eponymous Roxy Theatre (West Hollywood) recorded in Los Angeles. The " Elsewhere" pieces is Son of Orange County, Trouble Every Day and Penguin in Bondage, which were taken at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago and in Edinboro State College in Pennsylvania. Most compositions have been published for the first time on the album, only More Trouble Every Day ( album Freak Out! ) Had appeared earlier.

Musically, the album progressive rock and rock, and jazz elements of sound. It contains Echidna 's Arf with (Of You) and Do not You Ever Wash That Thing? two brilliantly played instrumentals. In the play, Be-Bop Tango ( of the old Jazzmen 's Church ) there is also a typical Zappa's concerts in the English speaking audience participation ( " audience participation "). This composition also contains the famous Zappa quote " Jazz is not dead, it just smells funny" ( Jazz is not dead, it just smells funny ).

The album also contains about three short humorous speeches Zappa concert to the audience ( " preambles " ) to explain the content and the circumstances of the conclusion of each of the following compositions ( Penguin in Bondage, Village of the Sun, Cheepnis ). In contrast to the previous vinyl editions, the CD versions perform those discharges not appear in the track list. The piece Cheepnis is a parody of cheap ' feature films such as It Conquered the World in 1956, whose main character, an extraterrestrial monsters, as "inverted ice- cream cone " is characterized.
