Royal Institute of Oil Painters

The Royal Institute of Oil Painters, also known as ROI, is an association of artists in London, which only exhibits oil paintings.

History

The Royal Institute of Oil Painters was founded in 1882 and received by King Edward VII to royal status in 1909. The number of members is limited to about 65. Any member may be taken only by appointment. Reputierte artists are first selected as Associate for five years. During this time they can get a full membership. Well-known artists of the Association are Lawrence Alma -Tadema, Walter Sickert, Laura Knight, Henri Fantin -Latour, Alexander Mann and Auguste Rodin.

The ROI is one of nine companies that have come together to form the Federation of British Artists. The meetings are held in the Mall Galleries near Trafalgar Square.
