Rüdiger Schnuphase

Rüdiger Schnuphase ( born January 23, 1954 in Werningshausen ) was soccer player in the GDR Oberliga, the top division of the East German Football Association. He played for FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt and FC Carl Zeiss Jena. Schnuphase is 45 times the GDR national team.

Sports career

Schnuphase started to play football the age of eight in his home community tractor Werningshausen. Already at the age of ten he moved to SC Turbine Erfurt, from the later of the FC Rot-Weiß was. He went through the obligatory youth teams and played from 1970 in the junior league. The leaders of the GDR junior national team were quickly aware of the talented striker, and he denied ever on September 5, 1970 in a 1-1 draw against Czechoslovakia East Germany as a center forward his first Junior National team. His first game with the men's team of FC Rot-Weiß denied Schnuphase in the 1971/72 season in the second-rate DDR -Liga, because the Erfurt had previously been relegated from the top league. With 14 of 30 games and scored eight goals he had share in the immediate ascent. In the following premier league 1972/73 season Schnuphase was used first Round, and was with 25 of 26 possible point games already starting players of FC Rot-Weiß. He played in both the central and left-sided midfielder with nine goals and was second best Torschütz his team.

On June 17, 1973 Schnuphase came to his first senior international. In the encounter Iceland - DDR (1:2), he was mobilized in the right midfield. However, the development stagnated at first, because in the next two years Schnuphase played only twice in the national team.

At FC Carl Zeiss Schnuphase be added, however, a difficulty, completed in the 1976/77 season again as a midfielder all 26 league point games and scored ten goals. In the spring of 1978, a significant change occurred in Schnuphases football career. After the long-term failure of Ulrich Oevermann a new Libero searched for FC Carl Zeiss. Coach Hans Meyer remembered Schnuphase Libero role in the junior national team and ordered him from the midfield to the position of the last man. From 1978 Schnuphase regained walking in the national team. After one and a half years he was on 15 November 1978 at the European Championship qualifying match Netherlands - East Germany (3-0 ) back into the A- range. From then on, he was an integral player base and brought it to the end of his career at 45 A- internationals, despite his club development but only in the last games in 1983 as a Libero. At the Olympic soccer tournament in Kiev and Moscow Schnuphase was used in all six games and won with his team the silver medal (Finale: DDR - Czechoslovakia 0:1).

With FC Carl Zeiss Schnuphase had a few weeks ago also reached a final. On 17 May 1980, the Jena contested the final of the East German Football Cup and won with Libero Schnuphase in extra time 3-1 over FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt. Jena Thus, had qualified to compete for the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1980/81. After eight games, all with Schnuphase, FC Carl Zeiss had reached the final. The same fate befell Schnuphase in the same 1980/81 season, when he was only second in the East German championship with FC Carl Zeiss. However, it was the best result in the GDR Oberliga for him. A year later, he took care of a curiosity in the big leagues when he was there as a sweeper with 19 point game gates to the scorer. For this he was selected as player of the year 1982. In November 1983, Schnuphase suffered in the European Cup match FC Carl Zeiss Jena - Sparta Rotterdam (1-1) a serious head injury that put him out of action for two months. In the second half 1983/84, he completed ten league games for Jena, after he finished his commitment there. Rüdiger Schnuphase played 260 appearances for FC Carl Zeiss Jena, scoring 111 goals - DDR - Oberliga 196 games ( 94 goals); Fdgb Cup 29 games (9); European Cup 35 games (8).

After the 30 -year-old Schnuphase no prospect of being able to play in the national team, he returned to FC Rot -Weiß Erfurt. There he was in 1984/85 re-used immediately on the Libero position 1 Gameday and played until the 20th Round by league without interruption. On 21 matchday Schnuphase injured again and could be used only on Matchday 2 of the 1985/86 season back in the top league. After a total of eleven league games this season Schnuphase finished in the summer of 1986 his career as an active football player. His last point game in the big leagues, he played on 22 February 1986 a 0-1 defeat against FC Carl Zeiss Jena. He had increased his league games for Erfurt to 123 and got away with it in the big leagues on a total of 320 missions. This puts it at number 28 of the DDR - Oberliga player and reached his 123 goals rank seventh in the GDR scoresheet.
