Rudolf Eisler

Rudolf Eisler ( born January 7, 1873 in Vienna, † December 13, 1926 ) was an Austrian philosopher. He is the father of the composer Hanns Eisler and the two politicians Gerhart Eisler and Ruth Fischer.

Life

Rudolf Eisler was the son of Ferdinand Eisler, a successful cloth merchant. The family spent most of the year in a splendid apartment on the Boulevard St. Germain in Paris and Eisler was originally named because of their Francophile attitude Rodolphe. His eldest brother Gaston took over the operation of the Father, another brother, Armand, was a successful lawyer.

Through the family fortune Rudolf was able to devote to the study of philosophy in Leipzig, Prague and Vienna. Eisler was founded in 1894 with a dissertation on the development of the Kantian Aprioritätslehre to the present. A contribution to the history of epistemology doctorate. In his philosophical works, he was influenced by Immanuel Kant and Wilhelm Wundt. In the so-called ideal realism he attempted a synthesis of realism and idealism. He supported the psychophysical parallelism of Wundt.

In Leipzig he met Ida Maria Fischer (1876-1929), whom he married in 1896. Ida Maria Fischer was the daughter of a butcher's Leipzig, wrote for various newspapers small novels and was allowed to attend lectures at the University of Leipzig. In 1895, the first child Elfriede Fischer Ruth was born. The sons Gerhart and John were born in 1897 and 1898 in Leipzig. Since 1901, he lived with his wife and children in Vienna in the second district of Vienna.

In Vienna the turn of the century, Rudolf Eisler had no way to get a professorship at the university, as he was of Jewish descent and also lived a demonstrative atheism; Thus Rudolf Eisler was predetermined a difficult life as a private scholar. Since the family was in trouble, Eisler was life dependent on care of his brother Armand. In 1907 he founded the Sociological Society with Mayreder, Max Adler, Rudolf Godscheid, Ludo Hartmann, Karl Renner, Wilhelm Jerusalem, Josef Redlich and Michael Hainisch. In addition, he published the philosophical- sociological yearbooks and worked as editor of the Scientific Public Library.

His main work as a single service embodies the dictionary of philosophical terms and expressions ( for the first time in 1899, 4th edition 1927-1930 ), published in three volumes and was supplemented and continued by Karl Roretz. On the basis of the dictionary and its conceptual history approaches a completely redesigned 12 -volume version of the dictionary was conceived by Joachim Ritter. Its volumes were published from 1971 to 2005 under the title Historical dictionary of philosophy. Furthermore Eisler published as a supplement to his main work of a 1912 philosopher glossary and a concise dictionary of philosophy in 1913. 1930 from his estate the Kant -Lexikon. Reference to Kant all writings, letters and handwritten discount releases.

Rudolf Eisler received an honorary dedicated grave ( Division 3, Ring 3, section 12, paragraph 6 ) in Urnenhain the fire hall Simmering.
