Rustic capitals

The Capitalis rustica, a font that is a variant of the ancient Roman majuscule Capitalis. Unlike the harmonic Capitalis quadrata with their strict geometric requirements, the Rustica features (from Latin rusticus " setting, rural " ) by its narrow, winding - bogige shape, which allowed a more rapid notation.

The Rustica comes early as the 1st century AD and remains until the 5th century AD in use. Since she was probably the predominant book writing in the ancient world, it is preferably referred to as paleography canonized Capitalis.

In the Carolingian period Capitalis rustica was still used for luxury manuscripts and remained in the further course of the Middle Ages as a display typeface eg for headlines in use.
