S.C.U. Torreense

The SC União Torreense is a football club from the Portuguese city of Torres Vedras about 40 kilometers north of Lisbon. The club plays these days in the Campeonato Nacional de Seniores, the third- highest league in the country.

The club was founded on 1 May 1917 as Sport Clube União Torreense. The club has played six seasons in the top division of the country. In the seasons 1955/56, bis 1958/59 1964 /65 and most recently in 1991/92 the club in the Portuguese top league was represented. The best results achieved Torreense in the seasons 1955/56 and 1956/57, a placement on the seventh rank. Typically, the club is to be found in the third division. By 2012 Torreense also played six seasons in the second and five in the fourth division.

The best result in the Portuguese Cup competition has reached the final against FC Porto with the arrival in 1956, where they lost in the Estádio Nacional in Lisbon 0-2.

The stadium of the club is the Estádio Manuel Marques, it was opened in 1925 and has a capacity of 12,000 seats.

Circa 1954 to 1958 played João Morais at the club, with the Sporting Lisbon should win the European Cup Winners' Cup and later in 1966 with what became known as Magriços national to Eusébio 1966 third at the World Cup. Another well-known former players is Zé António, who competed in the Bundesliga 2005-2007 64 times for Borussia Mönchengladbach.
