Saad el-Shazly

Sa ʿ d al- Shadhili ( born April 1, 1922 in Basyun; Arabic سعد الشاذلي, DMG Sa ʿ d aš - Šāḏilī; † 10 September 2011, Saad El Shazly ) was a diplomat and chief of staff of the Egyptian armed forces during the Yom Kippur War.

Under his leadership, managed the Egyptian troops the Bar - Lev Line, built by Israel to overcome a string of bunkers and earthworks that ran along the eastern coast of the Suez Canal. Following his public criticism of the Camp David agreement I he was dismissed from his post as Ambassador to Portugal and sent into exile in Algeria.
