The Saale- Holzland district is a district in the east of Thuringia. Regional planning Risch the circle belongs to the Planning Region East Thuringia and is a member of the planning community Ostthüringen.

Geography

Neighboring districts are in northern Saxony-Anhalt castle district, in the east the district-free city Gera and the county Greiz, south of the Saale- Orla-Kreis, in the southwestern district of Saalfeld -Rudolstadt and the west of the county of Weimar and the district-free city Jena. Through the county flows the river Saale.

History

The Saale- Holzland arose in the course of district reform in Thuringia in 1994 initially with the name of Wood county from the former counties Eisenberg (EIS ), Jena (J) and Stadtroda (SRO).

Policy

On 23 September 2008, the district received the loaned by the federal government entitled " City of Diversity".

District

District of Saale- wood country - circle Andreas Heller ( CDU).

In the runoff election on May 21, 2006, Heller continued with 52.6 % against Knuth Schurtzmann (The Left ) with 47.4 % of the votes and was elected by district. In the elections of 22 April 2012 Heller was able to unite in the first ballot with 56.3 %, the absolute majority of the valid votes cast and was thus confirmed for another six years in office.

Management

The seat of the district is located in the Baroque castle in Christiansburg Eisenberg, the former residential palace of the duchy of Saxe -Eisenberg from the 17th century. Field offices of the district administration are in Stadtroda and Jena.

Coat of arms

The Saale- Holzland since 1997 has a coat of arms with the following blazon: " Divided by a bent- rising gold, spangled with red hearts tip, is a growing black lion; a silver slant legal bar to the right in red; left in nine divided by black and gold box diagonally right green diamond ring. "

The coat of arms shows the symbols used in the past, the present territory of the Saale- wood country - circle predominantly dominant gentlemen, counts and princes. By the end of the 14th century, these were the lords of Lobdeburg ( top right) and the counts of Orlamünde ( at the top ). After almost the entire territory belonged to the Wettin princes ( top left). Short-term ( 1680-1714 ) formed in this area, the Duchy of Saxe -Eisenberg out; the present district town of Eisenberg was under the Duke Christian residence.

Economy and infrastructure

The economic focus of the district lies in the region around Hermsdorf. In the former industrial site of the Tridelta AG of industries grows, the renovated and newly developed industrial area is occupied about 70%. The Saale- wood - country circuit operates in the field of economy closely with the city of Jena. As part of the JenArea project, there are many economic relations, particularly between companies from Jena and Hermsdorf.

Traffic

Bus

The bus is taken in the Saale- Holzland of the JES circulation mbH. The buses run every working day in almost the entire county.

Rail

The first railroad in the Thuringian Railway Company, which was opened by Leipzig in 1859 to Gera, today the district touched at first only in the community Crossen an der Elster.

Only in 1874 was the main line of the hall Railway Company in the Saale valley of Naumburg on Jena to Saalfeld. It was only two years later crossed by the Weimar- Gera railway in Göschwitz that got its own station in Jena West.

The Hall Railway Company opened in 1889 by Orlamünde from a cross connection by Pössneck ( Orlabahn ).

The present district town of Eisenberg had already in 1880 a link to the route Leipzig- Gera by the railway line Crossen - Porstendorf obtained, which was extended by the Prussian State Railways 1905 to Porstendorf in the Saale valley. The connection to the north also created in 1897 by the KPStE of Camburg by Osterfeld - Zeitz touched in today's circle, only the small town Schkölen. Also, it has been shut down as a total of 37 km of itineraries:

Road

Transport center of the circle is the Hermsdorfer Cross as the intersection of federal highways 4 and 9

From west to east the main road runs through the seven county area. Coming from Jena, the B leads 7 via Biirgel and Eisenberg and leaves the county in the direction of Gera. From north to south the main road runs 88 and runs through Camburg, thorn castle, Jena, Kahla to Orlamünde and leaves the Saale- Holzland toward Rudolstadt.
