Šaban Bajramović

Saban Bajramovic ( kyr. Шабан Бајрамовић; born April 16, 1936 in Niš, † June 8, 2008 ) was a Serbian singer, who is often referred to as the "King of Roma music ."

Life

As a young soldier deserted Bajramovic because of love of the Yugoslav army, which earned him a three -year prison sentence. During his stay in prison Goli he founded ( the music he taught himself on the road) a successful prison orchestra. After completing his sentence Bajramovic took his first record in 1964, followed by more than 20 other recordings.

Besides music, Saban Bajramovic was also seen frequently in movies, such as in The Guardian Angel (1987 ) by Goran Paskaljević and Ciganska magija ( 1997) by Stole Popov. In addition, he was instrumental on the soundtrack for "Black Cat, White Cat " involved.

He died on 8 June 2008 at the cardiological center in Niš. In 2009, a street was named after him in his hometown, while it was partially accompanied by riots protests. On August 12, 2010, a monument in Niš is an initiative developed by Ivan Blagojevic, director of the Nisville Jazz Festival, opened on the banks of the river Nis. There is a statue which is the work of sculptor Vlado Asanin. Since no public funds were available, the musician Goran Bregović and the actor and director Ljubisa Samardzic and Nis Mayor Milos Simonovic involved, which gave up a month's salary, to the financing of the monument.
