Geographical unit

Sabang is a town in the Indonesian province of Aceh, in the extreme northwest of the island of Sumatra and the most westerly city in the country. It covers an area of 118 km ² and has 31 355 inhabitants ( 2011). The city is located on the island of Weh.

The city is divided into two districts ( Kecamatan ): Sukakarya and Sukajaya.

" From Sabang to Merauke "

The Indonesian saying Dari Sabang sampai Merauke ("from Sabang to Merauke " ) is used as an expression for the description of the entire Indonesian territory, where with Sabang Island Woe is meant somewhat as the the in the sung in the Song of Germany " Germany " by verse is bounded geographically " from the Meuse to the Memel, from the Adige to the Belt ."
