Sado Estuary Natural Reserve

The nature reserve Reserva Natural do Sado Estuary ( German Nature Reserve of Sado Estuary ) located in the south of Portugal and stretches along the river deltas of the Sado between the towns Alcácer do Sal, Comporta and Setúbal along the Troia Peninsula, covering an area of ​​23,160 ha of which approximately 9,500 ha of wetland riparian zones are to be used as salt mines.

The area is a haven for rare birds and fish species and is located on the banks of Sadodeltas a unique dunes and mudflats of the biotope of CORINE, which is located in the vicinity of the place Comporta.

Flora

In the shore area of the nature reserve and on the dunes Peninsula Troía are rare plants that exist in part only in this place in Portugal. There are, inter alia, here to find broom ( cytisus sp.), Foxglove, (Digitalis purpurea), Iris ( Íris psedochorus ), Jesus-Christ Wurz ( Pteridum aquilinum ), crowberry ( Corema album) and Love Green ( Armeria pungens ). , wild thyme ( Thimus capitellatus ), yarrow ( Santolina impressa ), beach thistle ( Eryngium maritimum ) and snapdragon (Antirrhinum majus).

Fauna

In the protected area Reserva Natural do Sado Estuary ( rnes ) there are 261 species of vertebrates. Of these, 211 species of birds, 31 mammals, 11 reptiles and aquatic animals. In addition, the protected Sado Estuary is in the nature reserve a veritable " breeding tank " for fish such as the Lusitanian toadfish ( Halobatrachus didactylus ), the two -banded seabream ( Diplodus vulgaris), the gold mullet ( Liza aurata ), the marble ray (Raja undulata ), sole ( Solea senegalensis ) and rare freshwater dolphins.
