SAETA Flight 232

The SAETA Flight 232 should perform on August 15, 1976 by Quito from 300 km further south of Cuenca. 21 minutes after the start of the pilot announced that the plane had reached an altitude of 18,000 ft and the flight verliefe normal. This was the last sign of life. Despite hundreds of search flights the aircraft could not be found. As most likely it was assumed that the machine could be flown against the outstanding from the plateau Chimborazo volcano. Also about a kidnapping by the Colombian guerrilla has been speculated.

The machine with its 55 passengers and four crew members remained disappeared more than 26 years. On 17 October 2002 Ecuadorian climbers encountered east of the main summit of Chimborazo at an altitude of about 5400 m on the remains of an airplane. In February 2003, it was confirmed that these are the remains of the SAETA - flight 232.
