Safe as Milk

Safe As Milk is the debut album by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band, which was published in 1967 by the label Buddah Records.

Formation

Although Van Vliet had signed a recording contract for two singles with A & M and released in 1966 by A & M Diddy Wah Diddy and Moonchild, wanted Jerry Moss of A & M Records more songs not publish, so that Van Vliet initially the label Kama Surta by Artie Ripp and later with Bob Krasnov label Buddah Records signed to record here the already almost ready made album. Krasnov won Richard Perry for the production, whose images in the sequence RCA studios were moved to Hollywood. Don Glen Van Vliet won the poet and writer Herb Bermann for the revision of numerous texts. Ry Cooder took care of the arrangements for Sure 'Nuff N Yes I Do '' and Grown so Ugly and played slide guitar one. The rest of the Magic Band to Alex St. Clair, Jerry Handley and John French was complemented by the guest musician Milt Holland, Taj Mahal, Russ Titleman and Sam Hoffmann. The recordings lasted from the spring of 1967 (Sunset Studios) to autumn (RCA Studios). Krasnow and Richard Perry gave the production a poppy painting. In Germany, the album was released in 1968.
