Safe-life design

The " safe -life method" is a design philosophy that is primarily used in aircraft construction. It is based on a service life calculation of individual components. During this period, it is assumed that no component failure occurs. After this period, the component will be replaced, regardless of whether it exhibits damage. A construction according to the safe -life method is usually statically determines what the failure of a structural component leads to a failure of the complete system.

In contrast to the safe -life method is the fail-safe and damage tolerance method.
