Saint-Augustin, Paris

The Paris Parish Church St -Augustin (French Saint -Augustin ) is considered the first church with an iron structure. She stands at the same place, Place St -Augustin, in the 8th arrondissement, about 300 meters west of the Saint-Lazare station.

History

The church was built in the years 1860-1871 by the architect Victor Baltard. It is the mix of styles of eclecticism attributed, as it combines style elements of Romanesque, French Gothic and Renaissance. The ornaments of the facade executed in stone symbolize the four evangelists and the twelve apostles.

The church was built on a plot in a trapezoid shape, is about 94 m long, and together with the dome 80 meters high.

After the church and the square, the station of the Paris Métro Saint -Augustin (line 9) was named.

In the church there are several sculptures from the hand of the sculptor Mathurin Moreau

Organ

The first organ completed in 1868 Albert Peschard; they had 42 registers on three manuals and pedal with electric action.
