Saint-Clément, Meurthe-et-Moselle

Saint -Clément is a French municipality with 845 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Meurthe -et -Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Luneville Luneville and Canton -Sud.

Geography

The municipality of Saint -Clément is located on the Meurthe, about ten kilometers south-east of Luneville, in the south of the department of Meurthe- et- Moselle.

The 16.47 km ² large municipality is on the one hand by the broad Meurthetal in which is used intensively for agriculture. The second largest natural area is the Forêt de Mondon, is part of an approximately 30 -acre contiguous forest area is. The forest area is on average 50 meters above Meurthetal and separates it from the valley of the Vezouze.

Neighboring municipalities of Saint -Clément are: Laronxe, Moncel -les- Luneville, Thiébauménil and Bénaménil in the north, Buriville in the east, and Flin Chenevières the southeast, Vathiménil in the south and Fraimbois in the northwest.

History

Originally called the village Sériménil which consisted of a few houses and a church. After the discovery of a source that was dedicated to St. Clement, a martyr from the 1st century, named it the place to after the saint. In the Middle Ages the town fell after the outbreak of the plague desolate for several years. Parts of the then newly-built church in Saint -Clément from the 12th century are still preserved today.

Were discovered in 1757 in Saint -Clément clay deposits. As in the neighboring town of Luneville ( Lünstadt ) a year earlier, in 1758 was built by Jacques chamber in Saint -Clément an earthenware factory, which was famous for its pottery and still is in operation.

An important economic factor is the location of the 53rd Telecommunications Regiment ( 53e Régiment de Transmissions) at the nearby military camp Lasalle, here also work civilian employees of Saint -Clément and environment.

By Saint -Clément led to the completion of the bypass early 2009, the partially -developed national highway-like road 59 of Luneville and Saint -Dié -des-Vosges in Alsace Sélestat. Another road connects Saint -Clément with the community Thiébauménil the river Vezouze. The Gare Saint - Clément- Laronxe is on the railway line Nancy -Saint -Dié -des-Vosges, which is operated by TER Lorraine.
